Part I is AS and Part II is A2. Each part has an equal weighting in the full A Level. There are three units in each part and candidates must take the three AS modules (Units 1-3) and the three in A2 (Units 4-6) to gain full A Level certification. AS is set at a level of study halfway between GCSE and full A Level standard.

There are 2 sylabuses followed in the HGS music department: the AQA Music AS and A2 courses, and the Edexcel Music Technology AS and A2 courses.

Examination results in the department have been very good previously, and are well above national c.f. averages.
