pupils are welcome to participate in music groups
at the school, indeed they are positively encouraged
to do so!
1.
SINGING
Singing
Team is for Year 7, Stage Choir is for girls in Years
8 and above.
2.
PLAYING
a)
Orchestras rehearse on
Tuesdays: Symphony Orchestra until 4.45 pm in M1.
(They appeared in the Finals of the National Festival
of Music for Youth in July 1995). Concert Orchestra
is for Years 7-9 string players (grades 0-4) and rehearses
in M2 3.30-4.30 pm.
b)
Windbands rehearse on
Mondays: the senior group, Wind Ensemble, rehearses
in the M1 until 5.15pm on Mondays: Symphonic Windband
in the School Hall until 4.50 pm. (They have played
several times in the Finals of the National Concert
Band Festival).
c)
Jazz groups rehearse
on Thursdays: Jazz Ensemble meets in M1 until 5.00
pm. The younger jazz group, Foundation Jazz, meets
in M1 1.40 - 2.10 pm.
‘Residential
course’ … in the last week of term before
Easter both string and wind players enjoy a 2 or 3
day music course at Myddelton Grange, Ilkley.
Those
who have private lessons are very welcome to join
these groups.
3.
ENSEMBLES
There
are many other groups for pupils - Barbershop, Clarinet
Choir, Flute Choir, Percussion Ensemble, Sax Group,
String trio/quartet and ‘ad hoc’ (eg staff
choir). The Flute Choir have played in the Finals
of the National Festival of Music for Youth. The Barbershop
group won their class at the Pontefract Music Festival
2002.
The
Jazz Ensemble have often appeared in the Finals of
the National Concert Band Festival.

music activities which involve large numbers
of pupils in a wide range of presentations.
