Harrogate Grammar School Music Association (SMA)

The School Music Association is a group of parents and teachers whose aim is to enrich the musical experience of our pupils by providing both financial and practical support for both music within the curriculum and vast range of extra curricular music we are fortunate to have at HGS.

We also raise funds to provide instruments, music and other additional equipment.

Some of our objectives for the future

To increase the school stock of instruments and equipment, and to ensure ageing instruments are replaced as necessary.
To provide funds to support minority instruments such as oboe, bassoon, tuba and viola
To bring professional musicians into the school to work with groups in master classes and workshops
To invite tutors from music colleges into school to discuss careers in music, e.g. Music technology, teaching, media
To provide each ensemble with their own budget for music
To encourage links with the community and encourage a wider audience for our concerts
